Engine Repair
Engine Repair is probably the least common of the repair categories. This is fortunate, because Engine Repair is usually one of the most expensive kinds of repairs that one can encounter. If internal engine failure is suspected, the engine will likely need to be taken apart in order to determine the cause and extent of the damage. When faced with this kind of repair, it is important to weigh the cost difference between engine overhaul and engine replacement. There are usually remanufactured engines available for most cars and these can carry nationwide warranties. If an engine overhaul is performed, you may find that it will be difficult to obtain repair warranty assistance at a shop other than the one that did the repair. A vehicle owner must make sure to keep up with regular oil changes and proper cooling system maintenance to get the most out of an engine. Also, don’t forget about regular scheduled tune up work as some running conditions can lead to long term engine damage.

An engine failure is always bad news. It forces you to make a potentially painful financial decision. If the cost to repair, overhaul or replace the engine is more than the resale value of your car or truck, the investment may not be worth it. But, if your vehicle is in good condition otherwise, repairing or replacing the engine may be less expensive than trading for another replacement vehicle. If you decide to go ahead and repair the engine, you have to figure out why the engine failed so the repaired engine won’t suffer the same fate. Sometimes failures occur unexpectedly. One minute you’re keeping up with traffic and the next you’re sitting along side the road with the hood up wondering what just happened. In most instances, though, there is ample warning that something is happening long before the engine actually fails.
Unusual noises, low oil pressure indicators (gauges or lights), overheating, loss of power, misfiring, hard starting and similar drivability and performance complaints can all be indications of problems that need attention. The underlying cause may be something minor or major. There is no way to know unless somebody checks it out. If you ignore such warnings (which many of us do), it can end up being a very costly mistake.
